Need Experienced Corgi Owner's Opinion
I had a dog trainer to my house this afternoon and she said that Trekker was an unusual build, really slim and athletic. The corgis she had seen are much stockier in build. I told her that Trekker was 9 months and 23 pounds and that between a year to 15 months he'd get his bulk. His mother was 31 pounds and his father was 33 or 34. Since Trekker is my first corgi am I correct? Thanks.

They are all different. :-) Is the trainer used to seeing Pems or Cardigans? Your little guy may stay leggier, or he may get more chest as he gets older. Hard to tell without knowing the lines, so probably best to ask the breeder about how their dogs mature. But nothing to worry about, he's a typical teenage Cardi. :-) Kane was a "tube on legs" until he was over 3 years old.
He is in the tube stage age, unless your dog trainer is around young cardigans all the time I wouldn't worry about it. They grow at different stages some are more tubey than others.
From what we've been told, most Cardis mature between 3 and 4 years old, although like Sarah said, every dog is different. Boo held his stocky build from day one and never went through the tube stage. Dream and Ruby, on the other hand, went through the tube stage, and Ruby's ribs only sprung when she had pups, and she's 4. We have been told Dream's will spring when she hits 3-4.
In the short version, like Jinnie said, don't sweat it....he's a teenager :o)
Having 2 Cardis since puppyhood... Izzie (2 years old) is much slimmer than Moxie (3 years old), but Moxie had a growth spurt between 1.5 and 2 years of age where her body really matured (chest became more prominent, etc). Cardis vary greatly, some are more petite than others, etc. 9 months is pretty young, there's definately some growing and maturing to be done ;o) The best thing you can do is just to let nature take it's course, the pup will grow when his body is ready, just help him by making sure he nutritionally has everything he needs when it does happen!
